We're looking at the 2027 Draft class, and let me tell you something, it's never too early to start thinking about who's going to be running your football team five years from now. That's not crazy talk, that's the business of building a champion, and the teams that get this part right are the ones that win Super Bowls ten years down the road.

Here's the thing about projecting the 2027 first round this early. You've got to understand that this isn't some parlor game or off-season nonsense to fill space. When you start looking at the 2026 draft order and thinking about where those teams are going to pick in 2027, you're doing something real important. You're starting to understand the natural flow of the draft. Some teams are going to be good in 2026, some are going to stink, and the order of finish is going to set up everything that happens in 2027. That's not prediction, that's just logic, and logic is the foundation of everything in football.

The beauty of looking ahead like this is that you get to see which teams are positioned to take real swings at elite talent. If a team is rebuilding right now, they're probably going to have premium picks in both 2026 and 2027. That matters. That means they can address multiple positions of need with top-tier prospects. But here's what I think is interesting about 2027 specifically. You're probably going to see some teams that are in rebuild mode right now trying to figure out if they're going to swing on a young quarterback or if they're going to patch things together with a veteran and focus on building around him. That's the fundamental question that separates good front offices from bad ones. Do you believe in your quarterback room, or do you need to go shopping? These prospects in the 2027 class are already on somebody's tape right now.

The running back position is interesting too because it's undervalued compared to what it should be. I know everybody talks about wide receiver and tight end, but a great running back who can block and run between the tackles is invaluable. He's like a security blanket for your offense. When the passing game is struggling, you lean on the run. When you're trying to kill clock at the end of a game, you hand it off. A complete offensive attack requires a quality back, and some of these young men coming up the pipeline are going to be absolutely elite at the position.

The wildcard in all of this is always which teams are going to surprise everybody by being good or bad in 2026. That's what makes projecting the 2027 draft so tricky. You can't predict injuries. You can't predict breakout years from previously mediocre players. You can't predict coaching changes and how they affect a team's performance. That's the difference between building dynasties and spinning wheels.

Good organizations know how to use the draft to build their way out. If your team is thriving, understand that the front office has to stay sharp and keep adding complementary pieces. The teams that truly understand this game know that 2027 is already being decided right now, in film rooms, in practice facilities, and in those hard conversations about who you're going to be and where you're going to go. That's why this stuff matters. That's why we pay attention. Because the best is yet to come.
